Straddled between Daytona Beach and the Halifax River waterway, sits a quiet intercoastal town by the name of Ponce Inlet. On the eastern portion of the barrier island lies the saltwater waves of the Atlantic Ocean; on the other is the peaceful, brackish Halifax. Between them is a picturesque landscape full of single-family homes, mom-and-pop stores, palm trees and sprawling oaks.
The home takes cues from this notion of “lying between”. Simple in its organization, the building gently works its way around the canopies of the site’s existing scrub oaks. Amongst the twisted canopies, appears a modest beach bungalow. The gable roof of the ‘T’- shape home stretches to greet the delicate branches above; working hard to not disturb the sites’ oldest inhabitants.
