This adaptive reuse project transforms a 1970’s bank building into an open market. The building is located on a prominent intersection in the core of a small city experiencing a transformation of its own. With many new midrise developments in close proximity, the design of the new market leverages the original character of the building to contrast the new construction that lines the streets adjacent to it. The heavy canopy that encircles the building like a belt has been maintained and wrapped in corten steel. This transom windows were replaced with storefront, flooding the space with light and providing transparency.
