Location – The Packing District, Orlando, FL

The Dr. Phillips Orange Juice Stand once stood at the North-West Corner of a prominent Orlando neighborhood, welcoming visitors from the North to this burgeoning Central Florida town. The 1940’s building was adorned with a tall marquee sign, neon lights, and a sculptural center-which we have admiringly called the ‘tulip’. The original Juice Stand fronted a sea of orange groves.

Once an understanding of the building components were derived, the analysis of the site begun. Nestled between a series of outparcels, the modern Juice Stand acts as an anchor to the surrounding buildings and site features. A plaza was designed around the Juice Stand to provide moments of relief  within the bustling cityscape.

Derived from its predecessor, the “kit of parts” organized both the building and site.
