The master plan and overall vision for the Packing District encourages the repurposing of as many existing structures throughout the community. Most of the existing, brick buildings were constructed by the Dr. Phillips team during the mid 1900s. While many of the buildings will remain intact, a few structures will be demolished to make way for new development. However, their bricks will be salvaged and brought back to life in a completely new way.
By up-cycling the remnant brick as the exposed aggregate for the new Lift Station enclo-sure walls, we can preserve the buildings of the past while celebrating the new Packing District development. This strategy will be employed across multiple buildings and become a texture synonymous with the Packing District starting with the Lift Station.
